TRANSLATING SCHINDLER HOUSE

The Schindler House is a historical heritage of early modernism Architecture in the Southern California region. Working on the transformation of it leaves a strong impact on me personally, as it is the first design project, and I was deeply impacted by how systemical and meticulous Architectural design can be.

Diagrams were created in the earlier phase of the design process, and subsequently, new spaces are formed based on the diagrams.

MAPPING THE INTERACTION

Is there a way we can picture what living in Schindler's house is like in a trackable manner?

Through mapping out all the possible interactions between rooms (acoustic, vision. circulation), it is proved that the house is functionally divided into three major departments.

The diagram/the spaces relationship is essentially the relationship between syntax and meaning. While the new space may or may not carry on the meaning of the diagram.

The narrative created by the diagram is more nuance and interesting than its direct intent. Here, a new alien parasite crawling on top of this reminant of the modernist classic, devour and intrude it.
