SKATEBOARD LIBRARY
FORMAL SOLUTION FOR HYBRID PROGRAM LIBRARY
This project manages to find a formal solution to reconcile the skateboard park and the library in one space.
While a skate park is generally considered a landscape condition, and a library is normally seen as an indoor environment. A critical issue to solve is how we synthesize these two contrasting typologies. Instead of dealing with these two programs as two isolated typologies, my proposal is to embed the skate park program into the geometry element of the sphere.
While the quality of spheric geometry itself implies the circulation on a skateboard, different spatial conditions for the library are created by subtracting, combining, interlocking, and inserting one sphere into another.
The project always embeds two schemes simultaneously: the primitive shape and the transformation.
STEREOMETRIC OR TECTONIC?
To maintain the precision of the interaction between each spheretical component, I developed a system called “radius slice”- an interlocking system array based on the longitude and latitute of a sphere.
